Bern is one of the most beautiful cities of Switzerland with its medieval centre recognized by the UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site. Beyond all the beautiful fountains, the city is widely known for the Bärengraben, the Bear Pit.
The Bear Pit of Bern has a long tradition: first mentions date back to the XVI sec. The conditions of the bears were cruel. But in 2009 the original Bear Pit was improved with the BärenPark, a new Bear Park where the animals (like gigantic living teddy bears) can freely live and play (or sleep like in this picture) on the slopes between the original Bärengraben and the bank of the River Aar.
